In late October 2018, the Directors of EACCI had the honour and pleasure to meet with Kersti Kaljulaid, the President of the Republic of Estonia during her official visit to Australia. During the discussion, the Board of EACCI shared with President Kaljulaid the objectives of the organisation, including the encouragement of trade and investment between Estonia and Australia as well as the creation of networking opportunities between the Estonian and Australian business communities.
The Head of State congratulated the Board of EACCI on establishing the new organisation and emphasised the importance of economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of cybersecurity, e-governance and digitalisation.
President Kaljulaid visited Sydney during her work visit to Australia and Oceania, which was aimed at gaining support for Estonia’s candidacy to become a member of the UN Security Council for the period of 2020-2021. Voting will be taking place in mid-2019.
During her visit to Australia, President Kaljulaid met with Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove, to discuss bilateral relations between Australia and Estonia, co-operation in different international organisations and the development of co-operation in the digital sphere.
The Estonian Head of State also met with the local Estonian community in the Estonian House of Sydney and took part in the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games.
